Reflection
During this project we are required
to interview and expert appropriate for our project. An expert that is
qualified in our specific subject. That for my group would be pretzels. We
choose to interview and employee/ manager at one of the most popular pretzel
franchises in the United States, Wetzel’s Pretzels. We chose to go to the location
closest to us witch would be at the Park Place Mall on Broadway and Wilmot. We
choose to go after school on April 13th once David, Jaysen, Zion and
I got out of 5th period.
We had a set of question approved
by our teacher that would aid us in our interview getting questions we wanted answered
about our subject. Our questions were: What are your pretzel making
recommendations? What makes pretzels so popular? Do you believe pretzels to be
a side dish or main dish? What is the most popular dipping sauce? Soft or hard pretzels?
What is the pretzel demographic? What is more popular, salted or unsalted? And
last but not least, do you enjoy making pretzels?
The response we got to these
questions were quite predictable but not all. We interviewed Alejandra a
manager at Wetzel’s pretzels and she gave us these answers. Her pretzel making recommendations
were to make sure you leave your dough out at least 45 minutes to set and rise
because if you wait any less or longer they won’t come out the way you want
them. She told us pretzels are so popular due to their buttery-ness and
softness. She believes pretzels to be a main dish for reasons unknown.
Alejandra told us that the nacho cheese sauce was the most popular dipping
sauce. She prefers soft pretzels as do the majority of people. She also told us
that the demographic of pretzels were anyone and everyone, kids, parents, seniors,
teenagers and people of every shade and shape. And out of all these people the
majority like prefer salted. Alejandra told us she enjoys making pretzels or
she wouldn’t even be here.
I think the most interesting thing
I learned was that you have to let the dough set for a specific amount of time.
I knew of course all must dough needs time to rise but with pretzels it’s a
certain amount of time to ensure their tastiness. So that was something new I
learned. I prefer cream cheese on my pretzels and I thought it was maybe more popular
than cheese but I thought wrong. And I was very surprised by the amount of
different kinds of pretzels they sell now… pizza pretzels, sugar and cinnamon, jalapeno,
hot dogs wrapped in pretzels, it seems there are no limits to pretzels.
