Presenting

#15

Now that it is our final week we have still be meeting up after school most days to put together our visual for our ted talk. It’s a lot harder to kind of portray some of your messages with only pictures and very few words. Our intro slide will be ez pz, but the history slide we have to find a picture that represents where the idea of pretzels came from which was the crossing of the arms in prayer. But we have a few pictures from when we got pretzels. Which I like a lot.

I think this part of the project has been the most enjoyable because it means that we are coming to an end and wrapping it all up. But we have also been working a lot and putting in them hours for this part of our project. At times it can be stressful but it’s only temporary.

Almost Done

#14
We have met up two more times or maybe more after school to go over our ted talk and make sure we have it written out as well as we can. We have written down everything word for word what we wanted to say to get an idea. Make edits tov it and perfect it. David is going to use his ukulele for the jingle. We also have been experimenting with that to see what fits without group and is fun and entertaining.

Outline

#13

Last Wednesday we met after school to start our ted talk. We went to the library and went then went to Starbucks to get it started. We discussed the outline of our ted talk. We wrote out that we wanted a jingle for our group to start and introduce our project so that it catches the audience before it even begins. Then we would have a rundown of the objective and why we picked this topic and this group for our blog project. Then we’d give some background history of the pretzel. After we would show the audience the different pretzels we tried. Wed show them then how we judged them and what criteria we used to grade them. Show our interview with the expert and conclude it there.

Now that we have finished our interview and taste testing we can start our ted talk. I’m most excited about this part of the project because we get to gather all the information and share it will our peers. The examples of ted talks we had to watch gave me a lot of good ideas and examples of how we can put together our ted talk that is interesting and will engage our audience.

Some of the examples had questions for the audience where they had to stand and sit to answer which had the audience think and analyze their own life. There were ted talks that just showed visuals for the audience, there weren’t very many words because the presenter had a well-rehearsed and thought out message. So that’s what I would like my groups ted talk to be based off.

Eatinn' dem Pretzels

The group and I went to Pretzel Maker in the Park Place Mall. Its a tiny pretzel counter in the food court area. We ordered some cinnamon and sugar pretzels as you can see in the picture below. Also Regular pretzel salted bites and some cheese dipping sauce.

In this trip we were able to try Wetzel Pretzels and had some of there regular salted pretzel bites. but now they have crazy flavors like jalapeƱo and pizza pretzels.

Interveiw Questions

      2. What makes pretzels so popular?
      3. Do you believe pretzels are main dish or a side dish ?
      4. What's the most popular dipping sauce?
      5. Soft or hard pretzels?
      6. What is the pretzel demographic?
      7. What's more popular, salted or unsalted
      8. Do you enjoy making pretzels?

Spring Break

So we are about to go on spring break, which is super lit and exciting. And we wanted to do some taste testing with the group on our week off, but unfortunately for our group but fortunately for me I'll be in California until the 25th. Sooooo, I think the group is going to go without me to go taste testing.
In turn we agreed that I could do some taste testing in Cali. So maybe our range of pretzels has expanded a bit, a lot-a-bit actually. Regardless we are going to get the job done! I wonder if Cali pretzels taste better than Tucson pretzels ... I'll soo find out.

Update on the project..I still don't know what's going on. But we do have a pretzel cook book. The cook book is pretty cool, all about pretzels. Different shapes, sizes, and flavors. I never thought pretzels could get so creative. I cant really quote the cook book but I'm sure you can use your imagination.
This cook book will be a huge help when it comes to when we try to make our own pretzels. It gives us a general idea of what to do and how to do it. I think that's what I'm most excited about, making our own pretzels. How COOL is that! Plus who doesn't love food and eating it?

Plans didn't go smoothly

So the group and I made plans to go pretzel tasting at the Park Place Mall on Wilmot, the mall has two pretzel shops, it was a two-for-one deal. We planned on going Saturday, February 27th. But plans fell though due to that Jaysen had to baby sit and I was helping to deliver a baby
I thought the delivering baby thing was a little more important due to the fact that it was someone I was really close with and her daughter was out of town. I actually saw a live birth. I held her leg even. It was amazing but worth having a little set back in our project. I guess we'll be rescheduling some other time.

Falling Behind

I'm definitely falling behind on this project, I mean just the blog posts and what not. Ive been absent to at least three lab days and that's where I do most of my work. Since I don't really do much of my blog outside of the lab days we get.
I obviously haven't given any mind to catching up until now. Well that's usually how things transpire with me. I'm a procrastinator and I work way better under pressure. Its actually where I do some of my best work. Yup this is me at the moment procrastinating, trying to catch up on all the days I've missed.

One thing I enjoy

One thing I do enjoy about this project are my partners, Jaysen, Zion, and David. they are good partners. They came up with the main idea for the pretzels, which I just so happen to love so they excepted me into their group. But I think they feel similar to how I feel about the project.
With that that's probably why we've all been slacking, I mean when we do our lab days we try to catch up. That's where we do most of our work actually. But David is definitely on top of his stuff. I've found that my partners are what make this project do-able, so I thank them for that.

Trouble

Well due to my lack of enthusiasm for this project I haven't really put much thought or effort in to my project. I'm kind of lost with the whole thing honestly. I try to understand but with the huge packet of directions and vague directions on the teachers blog, I try to make the best of it. But in the end I'm still confused.
I do though think my lack of understanding is due to my lack of being interested to understand. So I can only blame myself. I just don't want to deal with project, already having so much on my plate. I just need to suck it up and do it.

What I Think

This project is different. Not something I thought we'd be doing. I guess it could be considered as our senior project. I don't really see the point in the whole thing, its just another tedious assignment that we have to worry about on top of all of our other class assignments including this English class. We have to do it so I guess I don't have much of a choice
Not something I'm very excited about. I guess it I just don't think its relevant. I really what to be learning how to write, because next year when I'm in college I doubt ill be writing a blog. Maybe this was supposed to be something fun or exciting for us to do but I just don't find it to be either of these. Welp, these are just all my opinions about the project and how I feel about it.

Written Proposal

The average U.S. citizen consumes up to two pounds of pretzels per year. I’m sure I consume a bit more than that, as pretzels are one of my favorite snacks. Soft, crunchy, golden, salted, plain, small, big, twisted or straight, with nacho cheese, cream cheese, the possibilities are endless with a pretzel.  Pretzels have been around for 1,400 years, it was all thanks to an Italian monk that used the left over bread dough to make religiously symbolled incentives for his catechism students called pretiola (Latin for little reward). I choose this topic because it’s fun and a way to gain knowledge gathering specific information in depth, and I wanted to do it on one of my favorite snacks. Who and where sells the best soft pretzels in Tucson and how can I make the best pretzels at home?

For this project I will need to know how pretzels are made. How they came about and some of their history, the evolution of the pretzel is important in finding out why they are the way they are known and how they are supposed to be. I must find out all the characters of a pretzel so I know what to look for when trying to sift through what pretzel is the best

This information will be found by firsthand experience. Also by cook books and other professional pretzel makers knowledge. We can also look up reviews as well as our own blog will be filled with reviews of our pretzel tasting. And when we do taste these pretzels we will be taking to managers and owners.

At the end of our research we will have the answer to the question “who sells the best pretzels in Tucson?” And after we have that answer we want to try and create our own pretzels.
